In Kathmandu, in terms of having a real job with a real salary, I assist -- through Business Service Aadhar -- established and start-up businesses (jn the service sector) to either save money or make money. I love my job because it keeps me in touch with Nepali entrepreneurs and businesspeople and with their great ideas. Plus, the job presents plenty of challenges for me to do the best I can for the clients in terms of making a positive impact on their bottom line.
For the past few years, I have also also managed to hold a few parallel non-commercial "careers", so to speak, in (to name a few):
a) posting stuff on the Web about Nepal-related issues, b) engaging in social activism in Nepal, c) writing reviews and though-essays/argumentative essays for publications, d) advising Nepali students to apply to American collgees and grad schools e) getting involved in Kathmandu's arts scene as some sort of an amateur manager.
For some time I have been intellectually fascinated by China, and have spent a lot of time in the last one year voraciously reading everything I can find on/about China. I speak intermediate-level French and am learning Chinese at Biswo Bhasa Campus in Kathmandu.
I spend my free time (yes, I do have free time :-) ) working in my garden (an activity that relaxes me immensely), traveling and hiking, watching movies, reading books and magazines, going ballroom dancing, hanging out at Kathmandu's restauants, trying out Julia Child's recipes, and doing enjoybly intense guff-suff with friends over chicken-chilly and beer/wine.
I love life, and enjoy making others laugh, and feel that there is so much to do and so much to learn in this world.
