seems like you now have a current I-20. you don't need to worry as long as you enter US before the day your visa expires. there are some visas that require you to enter US at least 60 days before the visa expires, but I'm pretty sure F1 visa is not one of them. You might want to double check on USCIS website or hopefully someone else here on sajha will verify.

@abbp,
You should be good . So, no worries. you can visit your families back there and since you haven't done any work on your SSN, you won't be tracked down. Even if they notice somehow about your status (when you were Out of Status) then you should clearly tell the immigration officers at POE that it was not because of your fault and take the phone number of international co-ordinater/advisor/director with you so that if something happens you can always call them and they will talk to the POE officials and you should be fine.
