Dear Govindraj Joshi, [WhatYouSay's blog]

Thanks for finding time to write an article posted in nepalnews.com on the contemporary issue. Very few leaders have felt it. I have seen time to time some other leaders like Ramchandra Paudel, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai have tried to shed their understanding of the situation. Most of the later's are highly political, full of jargons and biased. Pradip Nepal's articles are light, extempore, idle talking and lacking depth.

First I would like to ask you how much you are aware of assessment of your own mistakes in past as a Nepali Congress leader and as a Minister on many occasions. Really the NC has let down its supporters and in general entire people and the country in its honeymooning in state machinery for more than a decade. There was a complete lack of commitment and full of dishonesty. Leaders were absorbed in self well-being and provided lip services to the people and the world.

You and Khumbahadur were opted and vying for the Home Ministry. Everybody knew the high expenditures in security heading during Maoist insurgency and was the attracting factor to influential leaders. Khum used to bargain with coterie of MPs as a bargaining tool in providing support to the government that was crucial for the survival of then governments for special ministries. You were always known as a close associate of PM Girijaprasad Koirala. Until you were let down by non-cooperation of then RNA in one of the Maoists cruelest attacks in Dunai, you resigned from the Home Ministry portfolio with tears in your eyes. When you were an education minister your role in granting permissions to various colleges were questionable and was a much talked about issue. Oh my God, the KGB (Khum/Govinda/Bijay) factor has been rumored to be surfacing again for the coveted Home Ministry.

The NC has given up its socialist doctrine embraced by late BP Koirala and left behind the plight and grievances of the poor. Socialism and democracy are two strong pillars of the BP doctrine. Both were flouted by GPK led NC to date. It tries to portray that democracy means freedom to speech, writing, demonstrations, strikes and giving votes to the same shameless sham leaders again and again with no accountability and transparency in their deeds. Socialism was gone with partnering with wealthiest and the most corrupted segments giving no relief and opportunity to the poor. This apathy also paved way for the Maoists to exploit the sentiments of the indigent and underprivileged. This abandoning of the causes of poor and downtrodden people is the major anomalies of GPK reign in the NC and national governments. One who forgets its bases is bound to go down sooner or later. It gave space to the crooked persons as a leader. The NC government not only returned property of then IGP who was serving jail sentence on the charges of smuggling and murder conspiracy but also nominated to the Upper House. That shows leniency towards criminals by NC and also raised eyebrows on financial irregularities by the NC leaders. Such an offense cannot be absolved ever. It shows only the trend like a tip of iceberg. Higher post appointments were characterized by brief case diplomacy.

The Nepali Congress was immersed in personal benefits and ignored its social, moral, political and national responsibility as the main political force. No visionary leaders emerged and no real visions whatsoever. It threw water on the people’s favor to the NC on each general election. Majority people are believers on democracy and that’s why they always gave votes to the NC whatever their performance by their governments in the past but it failed on each occasions to live up to the expectations of its people. Instead always botched its rise to the prime-ministership and wasted time on internal groupism, fights and personal gains. In second general election, people removed the NC from the previous majority position in the parliament and was mandated to stay as an opposition. It first accepted this verdict and allowed CPN-ULM to form the minority government. Then GPK’s foo garer dhalidinchhu statements came from Biratnagart suddenly after 9 months of new government led by late Manmohan Adhikary, one of the most revered and untainted PM of Nepal ever seen. Then started the dirtiest politics of buying or selling of the MPs for forming governments. The NC was not hesitant about flaunting people’s mandate to be an opposition party and came to the power again and again under various combinations and permutations. That was a political and moral wickedness, and a total shame being the largest party of the country.

I am not sure how much you are sincere about your own writing of this article because it is difficult to believe the leaders in Nepal like you. They say some thing and do other. Your statement "So, Congress has to stick to it democratic values and principles" is ambiguous as it has been like all manifestos, slogans and speeches. It is insufficient also. The blatant ignoring of the suffering of the people especially poor should be corrected unconditionally. Public pledge not to repeat past mistakes of corruption and personal gains, open self-criticism and acceptance of misdeeds in the past are ways of correction.

I wrote previously that PM GPK did not take mandate from the CWC or the Mahasamiti to chalk out the 12-point agreement with the Maoists in India. He was driven by the power hungriness as a disease. He was desperate to come back to his fond and prized Prime-Ministership, keen on giving an appropriate answer to the king, his strongest political rival and foe. This fondness and vengeance was realized by the playmakers and he was tricked into this worst political blunder by any Nepali top leader to date. He lost all his reasoning and presence of mind when bludgeoned by the king’s overtaking of the civilian government giving no hint of giving up and found lesser public support to overthrow king’s power.

Now all other episodes are spillover effects of this blunder, which require plethora of judicious and collective thinking and lot more repentance. There is no going back. Country is paying prices for the ambitions of PM GPK, king GS, Sujata, Prachanda, Dr. Baburam and Madhavkumar. This list is going up as the Terai leaders are mustering for another era of instability. Mostly all these can be seen as manifestations of their political ambitions at the expense of the national security, integrity, independence and prosperity. And, the people and our fragile international border continue to suffer more and more in the end. Thanks to our great leaders.

I don’t think you don’t understand these truths but you leaders are smart at equivocating to mislead the masses endlessly. But it is not sustainable now.

Thanks.

For what purpose the Maoists are fighting in Nepal? [WhatYouSay's blog]

They say it is for liberating the oppressed poor people and this is not possible without ending kingship and feudal oligarchy. Their advocacy for class struggle is manifested by obliteration of the enemies. They got inspirations from Paris commune, Soviet Union, China, Cuba and alike. This doctrine was conspicuously propounded by Angel and Marx, and applied by Lenin, Mao, Fidel and alike. Deng was a crusader for removing the iron shackles of orthodox communism in China and Mao lost his struggle against him even after effecting culture revolution. Madan Bhandari was successful in espousing neo-democratic communism in the mainstream communist party CPN UML, which was successful in becoming the second largest party now and then. But the rigid and orthodox CPN Maoists even do not have courage to face the elections as majority and themselves are more than convinced that they may be routed if the people are given the chance to elect people of their choices. The Maoists are champions of the radical political and economic changes, which are supposed to bring the smiles, present and future to the millions of the oppressed poor people constituting the majority segments of our country. Then why cannot they win the support of the same oppressed poor people?

That is the fundamental question that Maoists leaders fail to find or answer. They totally relied on the theory and hypothesis. They should try to read the feeling and thinking of the Nepalese in general. The majority (above 95%) hates killing of people. They are not brought up by their parents to loot or kill their own people to become well-off or rich overnight as the class struggle strongly advocates. What are their expectations from any government? They want peace, security, harmony and work to survive. They prefer wages, salary and good value to their agricultural or industrial products to extortion, donations and looting. By nature and through generations they are industrious, hard working and sincere. Only the people with political and economic ambitions, who have ruled the Nepalese for centuries including the post 1990 democratic era have flouted the sincerity and aspirations of the Nepalese people and tried shamelessly to baffle them through speeches, slogans and promises. The majority simply wants good governance so that their children can attend school and treat their illness. They want to earn something so that they can have a decent meal, clothes and house to live. They want irrigation, roads, electricity, telecommunication, drinking water, medical facilities, schools and colleges to improve their living conditions. They do not want evictions, kidnapping, extortion, lynching, beating and killing. The Maoists may think these people are too naïve, do not know about their fundamental rights as a citizen of the country or world. Yes, they are not much concerned about political sloganeering and agendas sweeping the country nowadays. They want to return to stable and peaceful Nepal essentially democratic.

The rebels argue that is impossible without violence. For good governance one needs leadership free from personal ambitions and with vision for future. If he has shown that ability to deliver what he promises or espouses, he can enjoy strong public supports. That should be the basis of any governance not the bullets as being done now and then. Actually that is stronger than bullets.

Once one has strong public support, then it can embark on restructuring anomalies, formulating economic (agricultural, industrial etc.) and foreign policies, revamping revenue, police, bureaucracy and judiciary departments, removing the corrupt and killers from contesting major political posts. Development of infrastructures including education and training facilities is prerequisite to accelerate agricultural and industrial growth. Leakage of substantial revenue especially in import and export is bleeding our national coffer. Rejuvenation and restructuring of the police and judiciary to maintain law and order and to discourage criminal activities and widespread corruption is our defense to illness. There are so many good things that can be achieved with conscience, brain and good intention without violence and destruction. The present chaos represents ill management of resources to date, the increasing hardship faces by the people and economic disparity. Post 1990 era governments especially Nepali Congress simply downplayed people’s aspirations as natural but excessive. They and all other major political parties are to blame for unchecked corruption undermining judicious collection of revenue and foreign support and their fruitful application for lifting national economy thereby alleviating people’s suffering.

So we do not need any more bloodshed, anarchism and divisions. We need an accountable, committed and sincere government not sold to any strong group or country. They should try to win hearts and minds of the people not by sloganeering or promises but by deeds and works. And such a government should be given a chance patiently.

Where are economic agendas of the political parties? [WhatYouSay's blog]
Blog Type:: Personal Thoughts

Everybody cannot be an expert of all political compendiums, theories and history. But every major incidents, philosophy should have a logical reason and conclusion where majority dwell. And the world and nations should respect the majority. They are the mainstream of the political, commercial and social fronts.

It was true that downtrodden masses were inhumanely exploited by a handful of the rulers including military, landlords and industrialists decades or centuries back. Even slavery was nothing illegal and ubiquitous. Humans were sold like animals. When people made ventures from wilderness to agrarian culture and industrial revolutions there existed uneven struggles amongst the people to acquire more and more wealth. First it was a struggle for survival. This struggle and overpowering one another resulted into an astronomical profitable business for rulers and their close allies by compelling the subdued and proletarian masses to labor beyond human capacity, physical or mental tolerance and conscience. The forerunners in enormous capitalization of labor, resources and opportunities even transcended other parts of the world to expand their insatiable desire for fortunes of treasury and all kinds of resource exploitations. The humanity and human rights were not omnipotent and fundamental. These were yet to be established in national or international doctrines and conventions as the indefatigable and juggernaut essence of human behavior and life. Though there were enough religious doctrines and commandments to preach humane behaviors but they do not obligate rulers, military, landlords and industrialists directly to control or regulate extreme commercialism and capital amalgamation.

Before being the subconscious level of the marginalized and the proletarians naturally dragged into reasoning, mass struggles and revolutions, this capitalization in macro and micro levels continued for centuries bringing the majority of populace into extreme poverty, hunger, ignorance and disease. That was actually a parody of human dignity and human civilization. The wondrous edifices of the ancient world where slaves and laborers languished, the warriors who went to conquer other nations to satiate ambitions of then emperors, slavery, concubines, coliseums where slaves fought to death to entertain royalties and worldwide colonization were extreme ends of this epoch. Then the world saw many political uprisings, protests, mass killings, insurrections, and evolution of different philosophies. It took millenniums to overcome the wilderness and centuries to do away with the human slavery and unrestrained exploitation of humans in present industrialized and developed nations. Some forms of these injustice practices still exist in many parts of the world including Nepal, the compelling factors behind the poverty, illiteracy, diseases and lack of human dignity in majority.

Every human being is entitled to live a peaceful yet unique humane life of his choice.

Indoctrination of every human activity and world activity by a single philosophy is over-ambitious, fallacious and misleading. How much we can go far because there exists the universe of unlimited boundary. Each religion tries to regulate all parts of our life but it is still not complete and cannot be. For sure the world and all humans and their activities and behaviors are deeply related. But we need to be practical and rational. Geographical boundaries are our first limit to bound unnecessary theorization. Our policies and activities should relate to neighboring countries and happenings in the other parts of the world. But we should not be blown away too much. One who is struggling to stand himself or herself how can he or she shoulder other persons? It is beyond his/her obligation.

The world has seen extremism in abundance than ever before. The religious extremism is a glaring example whereas political is always there. It is affecting every sector in nowadays. Sports, theatrics, art, music, science, engineering, technology, sex, space exploration, military hardware and software, crime, constructions, medicine et al are suffering from this extremism syndrome. Extremism evokes more efforts, cruelty and sometime violence. We should be wary of all forms of extremism. Extremism in any form is very dangerous.

Only peaceful solutions are human and the rule of law is the most important. Freedom is essence of human life since he or she is born. Social or economic justice is foundation and prerequisite for peace and prosperity. Human life is the most precious thing in this world, which is sacrificed only to protect motherland and the most loved ones from the enemies. All other instigations to sacrifice life or take life are selfishness and extremism.

So what we need is the good governance, motive, commitment and tolerance to other doctrines. We need to overhaul legal provisions and system so that there can be always unhindered timely justice even when a king or president or PM commits a crime. We need a stable government accountable to people’s representatives. Where are economic agendas of the political parties? Only the political sloganeering is bullshit. We do not need bloodshed, threats and violence. They are all against human nature.

Maoists: Madness in making [WhatYouSay's blog]
Blog Type:: Blog

This time the target is Kantipur Publications. Next time it can be any. Maoists are showing their true colors. They behave as if they are from a different planet. They are alien to logic, humanity and civilization.

Comrade Mahara or their party says it is their internal matter whereas it is so clear that this agitation, destruction and threat to stop broadcasting of Kantipur TV and breaking the head of Mr Sirohiya is part of their design.

Independent press or any one who speaks against their ill motive comes in their way and they want extermination of any obstacle to establish their dogmatic and cruel rule. They considered they are superior and dictate everybody to follow them. They do not mind taking physical actions for which they will never bother legal procedure or universal human rights. They can flout their own statements because their mission is clear. Their free press policy is a ploy and a ludicrous lie. They are prepared to commit whatever to grab the state power and machinery in the name of well being of poor and downtrodden mass.

How we can forget the entire learnt mass of former Kampuchea (now Cambodia) were systematically massacred by the then communist regime of Khmer Rouge to kill any chances of opposition to their bizarre and whimsical governance? In Nepal moderate communists like CPN UML have shown their adoptions to democratic governance system for quite some time but in general the staunch and fanatic communists are opt to radical moves and revolution to establish a totalitarian dictatorship. So they need army not for defending the country from foreign invasion or quelling future guerilla warfare or inside mutiny but for silencing their critics. Normally army for small country like Nepal is for national independence and security but will never enter into politics. Such army will never have any ambitious political national or international agenda unlike those of Indian, Chinese or American army. But hardliner communists need army to rule the country steadfastly and single-handedly. Life and human rights mean nothing for them.

So all their speeches and manifestos for freedom, equality, justice, social security and economic progress are only weapons on their march towards hijacking the state machinery. Actually communist leaders want access to the huge national wealth like any other bad intended leader or royalties. Money and national wealth is everything to them during and after revolution.

Their theme of revolution starts with coercing the innocent and helpless especially rural people to give money or man to wage the war against the existing regime. Any contribution was never voluntary. They spread false rumors and sell hypothetical lucrative promises to the vulnerable mass especially poor and uneducated. They collude to national power centers, army generals, foreign missions and international organizations. They make alliances or agreements (like with seven parties) but their infamous hidden agenda is always clear. To establish a total communist regime.

So if Kantipur Publications can distribute their copies free or without advertisement they will not object. What a statement! Since Kantipur is making good profits they too want to share it. They do not mind if their proposals are sustainable or not. They are not bothered if the publication fails and hundreds of employment is gone. Bomb went off in Karmachari Sanchaya Kosh building in Sundhara few years back because that they did not get enough donations from the contractor. They killed innocent people because they did not give them hefty money. They do not mind looting few thousand rupees made out of the saving of the rural poor. Actually they want money. They want total communist regime also to have the same.

We wonder how we can curtail this making of madness in Nepal. Any patronage or support to them is tantamount to feeding a snake with milk. They are aliens and should go to another planet.

Why Maoists'r demanding before election [WhatYouSay's blog]
Blog Type:: Blog
Friday, September 21, 2007 | [fix unicode]

Dear Comrade Leader

What is happening nowadays in Nepal is itself like a drama. So you cannot label the only immediate aspirations of the majority Nepalese to go for the slated constituent assembly election as a hypocritical drama. It is a selfish and too generic statement.

There could be many reasons behind your recent move but you would never tell us them for sure. But I would tell you that it is happening for some solid reasons. The following are outcome of ratiocinating (logical reasoning) that you cannot accept openly.

The most striking difference appeared when the Nepal government and Madeshi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) struck a 22 point agreement. Immediately you objected it. They had set protest programs to foil the election and surprisingly an agreement was reached before their deadline but this development compelled you and your party CPN (Maoist) to rethink and make a new strategy like this.

Many say you are furious and serious over your losing support especially in Terai because of recent movements by various outfits. You are completely at odds with MJF, who allegedly killed your many activists and sympathizers in Gaur and is the main culprit behind your losing grip in Terai. This government is not taking legal actions on those responsible for systematic massacre in Gaur. So your inner state of mind is completely readable in this context.

“If this government can fulfill most of the demands of MJF that once seems impossible to fulfill, why not any other demand that you can put forth”, this reasoning is all behind your current move where you are already in doubt about your performance in slated constituent election. So you want to achieve for what you have fought before the election the same way MJF achieved. You do not want anybody share credit in making Nepal truly republic. You intensely want to take that credit.

Undoubtedly there should be some catalysts to encourage you to make the current move. They could be a very much part of harming Nepal and Nepalese interest permanently. Please be aware. In every party handful of leaders take major decisions and all their logics are supported by other members. You have to listen to the conscious citizens like us if you want real changes in the country to benefit we Nepalese for whom you are fighting. The best way to avoid any accident in coming days is a frank communication among the eight parties and solve differences within. No outside mediation is required. Otherwise the mediators play a trick, as you know, to create confusions and suspicions among the contending parties. Please do not miss this grand opportunity to write down own constitution by ourselves. In Internet I read news in one Indian newspaper that India should help Nepal when they are writing a new constitution. But I don’t think so. We do not need outside help to write our constitution. So you have to share the grave responsibility to safely take us to the futuristic end where socialist, equitable and peaceful Nepal is awaiting us. Selfishness or within-fight should not hinder this noble process.
