This is not meant for everyone working at Nepal Post Office at Sundhara, Kathmandu. However, there are many postal workers there who openly demand money from Nepali family in Kathmandu for packages sent from the US or Western countries even though all fees have been paid for, including customs fee.
Don't these POS postal workers get their salary for their job that they have to resort to demanding money for delivering packages?
Why should our family in Nepal pay to these thugs when we've already paid all fees here?
I feel so angry at these people.

That's pathetic! Can you ask your family to record video or at least sound while getting the package? We should expose them in public media so that they scare like $hit. These scumbags should be exposed publicly and we should make their life miserable.

@jerryswari, @sajhamitra, I've sent packages to Nepal twice and both times they asked for random amounts of money. It is very annoying and frustrating. But I don't think there is anything we can do about it since all our government officials are so corrupt. Who would we even file a complaint to? Another corrupt official?

The whole system is corrupted, there is not a single sector of our government body where works are done smoothly and without feeding money down the table.

Last year, when I was home, the telephone workers who came our house to fix the telephone related problems asked for money openly. we had to pay them. This is everywhere in Nepal. Everybody expects money (bribe) in Nepal.

कुरो तक़रीबन १५ बर्स अगाडी को हो । म सुन्धारा को हुलाक मा काम बिषेस ले पुगें । नेपाल मै बनेको , लोकल पसल बाट गलैंचा का ४ पिस अमेरिका का एक भद्र भलादमी लाई पठाउनु थियो । अब जाठों त्यहॉ काम गरने लाई अमेरिका भने पछि के चाईयो ? मुजी ले नाटक गर्न थाल्यो, भन्छ, " यो गलैंचा नेपाली हो कि तिबेटन हो थाहा भएन" , गलैंचा सरटिफाईड भएन रे । अब ५०० ख़र्च गरि उसको भाग मा पैसा पारनु परने वा ९०० टेक्स सहित रेगुरल फिस रे ! म कद्किदै हाकिम भेट्न भित्री अफिस गएँ । रन्डो लाई १५ मिनट कुरे छि बल्ल आयो । मासाला भित्रै छोली रा हो कि चिकी रा हो ???? ख़ैर, मुजी लाई बाहिर के हो यस्तो , पैसा पो माग्छ भन्दा , के गरने यस्तै हो भन्ने जवाफ आयो । मेरो पाली ल बाल भनि ९०० नै तिरि , रसिद सहित , त्यों कल्रक लाई "मा चिक्ने तैलै गुलो को दुलो नि पाउदैनस" भन्दै सरापदै निसकें !!!

@nepalkoawaaz i think its just the opposite. Seems like u guys come from the famiy where ur fathers amassed so much money from gushkhori that u guys never had to work or go to government offices to get the job done. Spoiled entitled kids. I had been to lots of government offices and they are all the same. They make u wait for months for the things that can be done in an hour or ask for money.
So instead of blaming these low level postal workers, why dont u guys do a little bit reaearch on how u guys came to USA , i mean how ur fathers made money or u guys are so ignorant/naive abt how things are dkne in Nepal ?

bairaghi, I went to public schools and university in Nepal, worked in ngo for few years then applied to grad school and came here on scholarship using the money I saved up working for ngo to buy my ticket. So not everyone is like you. Not everyone has to justify all the corruption like you do because you grew up with it.

I know this happens alot in Hulak, last year one Hulak employee was selling iphone to friend of mine and he told directly " amerika bata pathako raicha kunnai kalle".
i rather pay more and use fedex , ups and Dhl.

It sucks because sending anything in a medium size box below four pounds weight via USPS is about $32, but the same package via DHL, FEDex, UPS, is quoted about $160.

I live in NYC and there is place in jackson height which ship for 6 dollar per pound. 10 dollar for first pound and 6 dollar for other extra each pound. i always use that and never took more than 8 days. no taxes for cloth ! they charge few for electronics but its worth it !
