In April 2026, Rolbert Joachim, a 40-year-old Haitian national, was arrested and charged with the brutal murder of a gas station clerk in Fort Myers, Florida.
The incident occurred on April 3, 2026, at a Chevron gas station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. According to surveillance footage and reports from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Joachim used a hammer to smash the windshield of a vehicle in the parking lot. When the victim—identified as 51-year-old Yasmin, a mother of two and Bangladeshi expatriate—confronted him, Joachim bludgeoned her in the head with the hammer multiple times.
Key details regarding his immigration status include:
Illegal Entry: Joachim entered the U.S. illegally and was released at the border in 2022.
Deportation Order: An immigration judge ordered him deported later in 2022.
TPS Status: DHS confirmed that the Biden administration subsequently shielded him from deportation by granting him TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS (TPS), which reportedly expired in 2024.
Joachim was apprehended by the Fort Myers Police Department with help from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is currently facing charges of murder and criminal mischief.
