hahaha..it's a classic case of a break-up between couples after engagement prior to marriage (mating) google is the maker and breaker of this relation. as i see this, it's a deadlock for now for any chance of revival of bidding for a re-mating season. however, the prospect cannot be denied. --yahoo's stock took a beating monday, but it's not as bad as many analysts have anticipated. microsoft may have to rethink their strategy. (so what if she got rejected? she is still hot in the market) --if yahoo management fails to improve the company's fortunes, and no other suitor emerges, another merger attempt cannot be denied and this time yahoo will embrace microsoft with open arms. (i still got the blues for you, baby) all in all the merger is still very likely in the long run. recent news says that jerry yang of yahoo hinted he would be prepared to reopen talks if microsoft has anything new to say. it would be interesting to see how microsoft play its moves now. sometimes the best of the dealings are those that are not done.

Ballmer's walking-away-tactic to induce 15% market cap loss which in
turn plausibly increases YHOO investors' equivocal sell pressure does
sound like a ongoing negotiation to me. Yang meanwhile will have to absorb a lot of shareholders' wrath until the deal goes through to the most eligible of suitors like MSFT. This is a classic case of "no does not always mean no". Just a friendly reminder: there are a lot of numbers between 33.00 and 37.00.

The deal didn't go through because of the backdoor play of Google as yahoo is planning to let Google handle part of its web-advertising business.

lol LK, nice analysis. I read somewhere Mr yang was asking $4 more for what MS had offered per share. since the news came out yahoo's share market is down by 19%. Mr Yang might be having 2nd thought right now I guess.
Google played villain re lol. They are also doing their business lol

dr. jekyll and others, i am sure you have heard our aunties back in ktm trying to bargain with those fruit/vegetable sellers. "la 10 rupiya darjan ko dine bhaye line natra chahidaina jau!" "sahuni, aaunus aaunus, la la laijanus"

Not gonna happen Yahoo is sinking like a rock after Msoft withdrew its bid. The only thing possible is shareholder's backlash might push to sell.

Egg zackly Loote! The buyer want to buy and the seller wants to sell. 'khaali bhau maatra na mileko ho ahilelaai'. One should read the part on how many times MSFT courted Sabeer Bhatia prior to purchase of Hotmail. To the buyer's misfortune, Bhatia comes from a place where vegetables/fruit supplies are sold/purchased through rigorous bargaining every single day. Bhatia was prepared to go at any length until he got it his way.

Microsoft and Yahoo are couple made for each other. I am expecting them to get married soon within 3-4 quater..
Shareholders may launch campaign to vote against Jerry yang and his group, they have the power to do anything. So either this marriage will happen soon if Jerry Yang will be replaced, or Jerry Yang is too much pressured by shareholders or even when Jerry Yang finally figures out Yahoo really needs microsoft to grow.

I wouldnt want to see the MSFT and YHOO merger !!! I would want to see YAHOO! prosper, and MSFT die like a "devdas" relating to all the analogies made before in this thread.
I believe Yahoo got brilliant technical expertise, but gotta do a lot of homework for the right strategy to hit the market again, as they did before the dotcom boom.
