My question is how this event is different than ANA event that takes place every year? ANA also have cultural shows, concerts with popular singers. dj program, sports, forums, exhibitions, movie and vendors. Also how this event going to be better quality when the organizers are doing event this big event for first time in their life. I am interested to attend with some friends but I want to know what is main goal of this event. What percentage goes to charity? If organiser could clarify, that would help to decide whether to attend this event or not with my friens. Thanks.

Dear Sanu_Nepali,
It's a very valid question. Our objective is to bring the Nepali community together and EDUCATE, ENGAGE, & ENTERTAIN.
Our line up of programs are very similar to ANA. What differs us is the quality. A few reasons why it will be better. Our team members have been organizing events for a long time. When I was in college I myself used to organize events for for an entire week during international week where we used to have over 11000 people attending just in one day. Similarly, my other team members have been organizing a variety of events such as sports tournament, parties, concert etc. We just recently successfully organized Global Nepal Fest and 1974 AD Concert in Washington DC. So organzing big events is not new to our team.
We are doing this for profit so we have to make sure that the event is of the highest quality as we very much anticipate doing Nepalese SummerFest year after year. If we don't do it well, there is no reason for people to come back another year.We are non political and our focus has been guest satisfaction. Being non poitical helps us in making our decision faster and execute them. We have been working on it since August of 2011 so a lot of planning and work has gone into it. We have high standards for ourselves and we do things accordingly so I'm very confident Nepalese SummerFest will be a quality event.
It's out first year so it might not be perfect but we need your support and suggestion from the very early on to make it close to perfect.
Regarding Charity, we have internal contracts with some non profit partners which they will disclose after the event is over. We are providing free booths and revenue from raffle sale to non profits. How much money they get will depend on you and everyone else's effort in making Nepalese SummerFest a grand success. Support our programs, buy raffles and I can assure you that it will have a great impact!
I hope to see you and your friends at Nepalese SummerFest.
Please feel free to ask us if you have any other questions and thank you so much for your interest.
Cheers!
Nepalese SummerFest Team,

I think they want to prove that ANA is always on loss despite thousands of people attend. Top brass stay on sutes for free..
I think these folks want to prove that there are people in US who can organize same type of program like ANA who are organizing for past 29 years and always on loss, can make profit and run a company and some portion can be distrubited to the so called - NFP (not for profit) organizations.
I am also planning to attend but at the same time there is another convention of engineers and haven't yet decided which one to attend.

Great to see more functions like the ANA going on this year.
ANA is giving $3000 each to winners of basketball and soccer this year. They have also announced a grand prize of $10,000 to winners of soccer 3 times in a row.
Is Nepalese summerfest giving any cash prizes too or is it only for the organizers own profit only?

Really.. its funny how ANA doesn't have accountability for $60,000 that went missing... and has the money to offer that much in cash prizes ... Makes you really think what they are trying to do

@ Sahi Baba
We are not targeting 20 teams more like 12-14 teams. We want a quality event over quantity. The registration fee for soccer is $500 for soccer teams and $350 for basketball. We are offering $1000 to the winner and $500 to the runner-up of soccer and $750 for the winner and $350 for the runner-up. The cash prizes are just our way of saying thank you to the teams but what we really want to promote is sportsmanship and togetherness. That is why we are organizing a "Meet-and-Greet" event (athlete only banquet) prior to torunament. The objective of this event is to promote mutual respect and friendship amongst players. Since this is our first year doing this event we really want everyone's support and maybe next year we can give even give out more attractive prizes to the winners. Please come down and support us! We are trying to bring good change to the antiquated way of event management.
Hope to spend a memorable weekend together!!!
Thank you,
Nepalese SummerFest

I have to agree with CuteNepaliGirl here: Where's the accountability of ANA? Instead, they are moving ahead with the ANA convention this year as if nothing happened in the past with similar themes and disillusioned membership. But I think the onus is on us, the nepali Diaspora, to voice our concern and make them accountable.
Nepalese Summerfest did not have to mirror ANA events, and would have been worthwhile to build a niche on creative platforms, but I support them considering it is being organized by the young professionals of our community, are apolitical, and are transparent about their mission and goals. They need our support rather than blindly questioning them!

I am not going to either of the programs. They look exactly the same. For the ones who attend either or both the programs, ENJOY.

Aren't you the same guys who organized "Mitho Bhetghat" during ANA last year ?
How come you're not organizing any such event or any "dating event" for young professionals ?
I am pretty sure there are tons of young proessionals in the area who would like to attend such event, maybe ?
If it ("Mitho bhet ghat") was such a big hit (that's what they said last year), why not at your own premises ?
I think you guys should focus this program with a little different perspective than usual "DJ Night", "unplugged night", or any other "back to school night".
Why not doing different workshops or job outlook event by inviting different professionals who can give idea on how to hunt job, skills needed etc.
I hope i get to see some great events/workshops rather than people displaying "Wai Wai" packets in the booth. :)

@ guy_tensed

Yes, a few of us on our SummerFest did organize Mitho Bhet-Ghat.
How come you're not organizing any such event or any "dating event" for young professionals ?
We are organizing FREE Professional/Social Networking event open to ALL this year.
We want to raise money for the Butterfly Home project on behalf of Early Development Child Center Team and Pushpa Basnet - attendees can donate any amount they wish. 100% proceeds will go towards benefiting ECDC. Please visit www.ecdc.org
I am pretty sure there are tons of young proessionals in the area who would like to attend such event, maybe ?
We think so too. Young professionals want to meet other like-minded professionals and there is need/want for this in our community. Some people are little hesitant to be seen as single and going to singles only speed-dating event. For some reason, they view it as being seen "desperate" in-front of other people. Overall, we received overwhelming support from people from all ages last year.
If it ("Mitho bhet ghat") was such a big hit (that's what they said last year), why not at your own premises ?
Mitho Bhet-Ghat was def. controversial but we had a really fun, professional and easy going crowd. We were able to raise 1400 dollars benefiting Nepal Youth Foundation. 100% of all proceeds went to NYF. Please visit www.mithobhetghat.com for more information.
This year - we want to open it to everyone and not make it exclusive for singles. It would be fun for people to meet and mingle, make new friends, expand their social network, find new job leads or make new business connections - opportunities are endless.
I think you guys should focus this program with a little different perspective than usual "DJ Night", "unplugged night", or any other "back to school night".
Why not doing different workshops or job outlook event by inviting different professionals who can give idea on how to hunt job, skills needed etc.
Yes, we realize that a few of our programs sounds pretty familiar but you will find lots of new things incorporated and we will maintain quality. We are also promoting emerging artists in our community who are looking for platform to showcase their talents.
One of the many workshops we are doing this year and this year is -
Non-Profits Synergy (Presentation) followed by Non-Profits Networking Event to join us in the movement of educating and raising awareness in our community on various social, health, gender and economic issues.
Non-Profits Organization participation: GMIN, ECDC, CYF, Help Nepal Network, Adhikaar, EDWON, Friends of Nepal, Nepal ko Yuva, Committed and KIVA. We gave 10 free booths to selected non-profits.
