In response to Sangita's question at the Comments section re: Nepali fonts, and to take it one step further, current Devanagri fonts require users to be able to type in Devnagri. This is a huge learning process, and various fonts used are not compatible. To bring down the learning curve, and to make Devnagari fonts appear on any TEXT area, including this typed message, there are a few tools out there, one of which is the iTrans, which phonetically transliterates your regular English typing to Devnagari fonts. Eg. if you type <'n' 'e' 'p' 'a' 'l' 'i'>, the output is "nepali" in devnagari font. But this tool is designed for south Indian language, grammar and vocabulary.
I am currently for the last few years working on a Nepali transliteration tool that will work for "NepAli bhAsA, sAhitya, byAkaran^, and with only a TEN rules to learn.
Hi San, Can we have Nepali fonts to post things from the Nepali Newspapers. Sangi
When you cut and paste nepali fonts, be sure to put < font face="preeti"> at the very beginning of the text and </font> at the end of the text SP 12/13/2000
Why not the referred webpages in kurakani not clickable? Will you please make them 'link' to open another window,so that one can visit the referred page without bothering that tedious copy and paste?
San, Thanks for adding search box. I really appreciate your genuine interest in maintaining the site and responding to the people's request promptly. Since I mostly use my work computer to access the GBNC site,I was discouraged to visit it after noticing bad to me language all over. Your polite response to "agyat" was very nice. And Agyat will honor his/her dignity by maintaining his "ethics", I hope. One more thing, Sachit wrote me an email and I tried to reply him back. but his add president@gbnc.org didn't work. Mail came back to me it was a week old story . Do you think it's fixed now? or it was not broken at all? what do you think?
That way, you supported the freedom of speech on this Web site as well as pointed out the futility of trying to post stuff anonymously.
I have always believed that the best way to drive out bad ideas is NOT thru censorship but to come up with BETTER ideas. I am happy to see that you too, through your practice, seem to subscribe to that view.
Finally, two points:
Though I do not like dealing with 'anonymous' posters and with people using some other names to post their stuff, let us agree that those people have the right to do so -- even if, at times, what they say and write is offensive to some of us. All things considered, their offence is usually a SMALL price to pay for BIGGER freedom of speech. Let's not lose sleep over what a couple of people with retarded views write and post!!
As such I oppose the idea of registration.
Second, though I don't use "vulgar" words, I have no problem tolerating someone else's use of those words. Let people use those words, if they honestly believe that those words are their best medium of expressions!! Like you wrote, if need be, those people can always be tracked down. Sometimes, people need to dump their frustrations somewhere, and if the GBNC Web site becomes such a place for them, well, let them!!
You can always remove such postings at your own discretion -- a right you have already reserved for yourself. Hence,
Hence, down with censorship; and let us trust to have faith in our GBNC community's collective intelligence to sort out for themselves what's goo and what's bad without anyone making decisiions for them a priori.
I don't know if registration is that good though very few interactive sites allow anything without registration, unless they are commercial sites.
I think the best way is to compile a set of obscene words, both Nepali and English, and delete or reject the whole message if the message contains any of the words. In this way, people will be able to correct their message if they wrote them inadvertently.
I think another nice way to treat with the miscreants is to keep track of the IP address ,and the names used from those IP address. You know, whatever they do,criminals leave the traces in the wake of their crime.
I have been saddened with the comments people have placed. That sounds sick.
This is how you have been complemented for your volunteered work, but, I hope we will continue seeing new attractive and innovative additions on this web site, despite such nuisense. There are many people who love your state of art website.
Sangita
Thank you Sangita for your support. The comment in question has not discouraged me in any way. I am glad to know that there are people who love this site : Regards, SP 12/4/2000
To keep the sanctity of the website,I think it is advisable to have filtering system,so that people can't get away with vile and offensive comments and naming themselves 'anonymous'.
I am pretty much free after 20th, and I think I can be helpful to you if you have time constraint ,so that you can better organize something that you so dearly created.
I know we can easily detect the computer from which the foul comments are written.
If you find my propose useful, please reply in my email address.
And my request to all those people who have such a great love with foul language: just give up the habit, because that is something that cannot satisfy anybody else than yourself, and your smugness. This may not even be a case about which you can be proud of in your future. What you are doing is tantamount to setting into fire the very house that you are living. If you think the cursor are so cantankerous, why not just disable them in stead of writing such a long harangue ?
Thank you Bishwo Ji for your comments, I really hope we won't have to pursue this issue. I hope this is a one time thing.
I am, however contemplating on whether to require registration before being able to post to the KURAKANI section. Suggestions are welcome on this. ... Regards, SP 12/4/2000
Don't you think we sometimes turn you into, like, the ringmaster of century old Boston and NewYork who organizes ,but, free bouts of pugilists?
But then, the organizers used to be unscrupulous, and here the subscribers, with a nice organizer like you. Accept our compliments.I know how hard it is to organize a bug -less website, that is too for no incentive!
Hi San, Its nice to see the gradual development of the design of this website and of course, you are to be thanked and commended for your untiring efforts that too without any incentive and precious time devoted. The IP address of the last visitor, kind of takes away the privacy of a visitor and may not look very pleasing for a habitual/compulsive/obsessed visitor to GBNC website. You may, however, keep that hidden for your record purpose. Regards Mabi
Point taken & the info has been removed Thanks for your continual suport in making this site better.. SP
hi San, How can I post pictures in the lighter side. Mabi
Mabi dai, Thanks to your suggestion, I have added the image upload capability to the HUMOR section. I think it's a very good idea that other discussion applications have not implemented.
i would like to thank the gbnc for the great momo-party. the sauce was superb and so were the momos. great job. also i would like to mention raju dai here to show my appreciation for the efforts he put in yesterday, to make sure that everyone got their share of momos to eat. thanks raju dai. r
Hey san bro. why only focus on nepali community of Boston. Why not work on a larger scale for a 'Greater Nepali Community of US'. If so i am with you. CD
Cruel Dewd., I am open to any ideas on contributing to the greater american nepalese community. Let me know if you have anything in mind.. SP
The mouse_follower shows how the behind the scene data collectors DoubleClick, etc operate. They follow all clicks, drags and etceteras. Same for FBI carnivore email snooper and all those darn cookies....
If the balls now converted to small nepali flags so that any desh bhakta nagarique can't call them annoying - just kidding! are still annoying please click on the link besides the HEADLINE NEWS on the main page to DISABLE them. Please keep suggestions flowing so that I may improve YOUR site. Thanks.
Ashu bro, thanks for the comments about the amazing blue balls. I can't take credit for it cuz I didn't create them... but anyways a webmaster is as good as what he can find and implement! : I was pretty fascinated by it as well.
I would like to invite anybody who is interested in Safa Tempos who may have doubts about them also to ask questions to me by email. I would like to try to set the record straight on some technical and political issues. I will take the mails and complie them over time so I don't have to answer reptitive questions.
