Hi San, YOu must be really amazed with the developments with your "baby", I mean, this website. I would like you to add a "entertainment Corner" where jokes and other stuffs can be posted, which are not discussions or comments. Regards, Mabi
I wasn't complaining at all. Whatever I said was legimate at the time and I don't have any regret about that. Sure, I'll be at the party wearing VAN HEUSEN shirt. What about you ? What are you wearing ?
Dear Amatab Bachan, My point is that GBNC needs people who are COMMITTED to provide the leadership to make GBNC an effective organization. The way members are selected right now is pretty whimsical and promotes the selection of people who are nice but who will not be able to be committed to the services that the positon entails. Your comment that it's easy to bark from there applies to you as well. It's easy for people to make comments but there's a difference between a positive comment and a negative comment. I want to see a fully functional and LIVE GBNC that will increase the standard of social interactions among the Nepalese society here as well as contribute to the members who are in need. Not just an organization; whose performance has to be expected out of people who are elected on the basis of a kindergarten style election, and whose activities are limited to couple of parties and couple of movies in a year, which gets done because the 'elected' members feel like they HAVE to do it because of pressure, not because they are excited about it and interested in doing it.
I would like to see people who are excited about being part of GBNC and interested in helping out others to be elected this year. Not just some people who are there for the line item in their resume.
Just wanted to say that your wish to show off your New VAN HEUSEN shirt has been fulfilled. Happy Now? So it was worth spending your hard earned $19.99 for the party ha!!!!!!! Now how about comming to the party tonite and the good news is that you get to show off your shirt even longer, because we are having a Dashai party till 2am in the morning. Have a wonderful Dashai and pls stop complaining like a kid.
On the same GBNC subject. I have concern about the election process itself. Why can't we have a normal DEMOCRATIC election. Nepalese population in Boston are not like elementary school students, whose election is run by asking the people present in the Dasain Party to raise their hands. Until a democratic election takes place, it's pretty useless to form any expectation on GBNC.
First of all, " VIJAYA DASHAMI KO HAARDIK SUVAKAMANA".What is going on with GBNC Council ? Seems like GBNC council is dying.... literally. We didn't have NEW YEAR's PARTY but I was hopeful that GBNC would definitely organize a DASHAIN party. I even bought a new VAN HEUSEN shirt for GBNC's Dashain Party.DASHAIN came and gone but nothing happend. It is understandble, there may have been problems organizing the parties this year, but at least GBNC President could afford to send an email to the members. Oh....by the way, does this mean, "NO DASHAIN PARTY.....NO GBNC COUNCIL ELECTION ". Is that it ? I don't think we can afford to go like this for one more year. We demand GBNC council election NOW...not next year. Oh....the other important thing, I would like to get $ 19.99 refund from GBNC council for my new shirt which I didn't get to wear on GBNC's Dashain party.
Any one who is interested in basketball or just enjoys playing ball is welcome to the Somerville court. We play from 7:30 till 9 pm. Everyone is welcome, if we gather a group of people we will try to organize a 2 on 2 tournament or something.
I read the comments about Paras. He is a pshycho, who should be institutionalized as soon as possible.King walks on his foot like a pedestrian in Tridevi Marg see today's Nepalnews.com to shine his image, but he should defy the indignations of his brother Gyanedra to divest the little Evil of the royaltee and supposed immunity. Unless king does that, and unless Home minister Joshi starts punitive action against Mr Evil,we should jeer, not welcome, royal family and the ministers whenever they come to US.
Anyway, I know that if Mr Evil again tries to move out of the town, the enraged guys there are waiting for another hit and trial, but this time the role will be reversed.Everybody has to pay for his deeds.
Niger...whoever u are...your comments are beyond redemption. As we suffer through your perverted sense of apathy, I hope that it is unsurpassed only by your mental imbalance. Otherwise whatever right that has been conferred upon you to submit your opinion ought to be at best, summarily withdrawn.
Bro, I mean ,Guy is already dead.GBNC's letter is not going to bring him back to life again. Guy Paras not Prakash Shah has already took many people's life. What happen...nothing right.
Bro, Who is Prakash Grung ,sounds like your own relative. What matters if GBNC writes a letter to RNE.It will just fill the trash cane.We know RNE people, they care about their ass.
Does GBNC have any plan on sending a written petition to Royal Nepalese Embassy against Parash Shah's Hit and Run incident in Kathmandu that took a life of popular musician Pradeep Gurung last week? I think, we should...if this doesn't violate GBNC's BY LAWS.
Schools with Financial Aid for International Undergraduate Students Some US schools are more likely than others to offer financial aid for international undergraduate students. The lists below indicate which schools offer aid including grants, loans, and jobs to the largest numbers of international students. The lists are based on a list compiled by Douglas C. Thompson, Associate Vice President for Enrollment, The Culinary Institute of America.
To be included in the following lists, the schools must have an average award that is greater than 1/5 of the cost of attendance. The financial aid may include grants, loans, and jobs, and often includes both merit and need-based awards. Within each group, schools are listed in alphabetical order.
Remember that a much greater number of schools provide financial aid for international graduate students in the form of teaching and research assistantships. For information about financial aid for graduate study in the US, you should contact the schools that interest you even if they aren't included in the lists below.
It a school is not listed here, it probably does not have much financial aid for international students. However, it is worth noting that some schools may have athletic scholarships that are open to both international students and US students. The lists below do not count the number of athletic scholarships awarded to international students.

This is in response to Mr Rahul Khanna's comment dated july 31st. Its unfortunate to say that not all 700 Nepalese living in Boston have privilage/access to computers like we do. In order to reach them we definetely need some means like putting posters in Indian stores. What is so wrong about putting posters in the Indian stores? Or were you offended to see a Nepali poster in an Indian store? As for Rajesh Hamal coming to town, sorry brother you got a wrong information next time better check your source before you open your BIG MOUTH . But our beautiful actress Karishma was in town accompanied by her producer husband Binod Manandhar. I'm sure you saw them if you did come for the premier show. Rahul my dear friend, before you accuse anyone put yourself in that person's shoes. You don't need to name people and say who makes a better/worse President. You know what?? even if you are not an active council member it doesn't matter. We Nepalese ourselves are members of our community and to make any events success lies in our hands. All we need is to participate in events hosted by our dedicated council members. You think you can do that? See even one extra person's presence makes a whole lot of difference! So my friend pls think twice before you sit down to write any comment. just a suggestion, don't take it personally .
A few thoughts on Dhukdhuki event The movie was great. The event was well planned. But something still bothers me.
Is it, that we as Nepalis, have a greater tolerance for mischiefs of other Nepali children? Or is it that some parents feel too comfortable to leave their children running around while a lot of people are trying to participate in the event. I myself have had to escort children off the stage when performances were in progress in one of the not too long ago GBNC event.
Maybe the proud parents of these aspiring and curious children should be a little more considerate of others around them. What were the mom and dad of the little kid doing when this kid turned on the stage lights in the middle of movie. OK, this is a Nepali event, and there is bound to be certain "Nepaliness" in play in everybody's attitudes. But is that a green light to the Nepali parents to not care about others in the theater? About those hard working artists, enthusiasts, lovers of Nepali or any other entertainment ?
Until something goes terribly wrong like a fire alarm being pulled or causing serious damage to equipments and the community has to pay for it, my comments might be a little premature here. But there are certainly others who would like to think about this "Ganesh the Menace" situation in Nepali events.
Thanks Rahul for your sincere comments and I'll assure you that I will not take it personally. You mentioned that during my presidency you have experienced a lack of communication between the GBNC executive council and the community. In my opinion and everyone has a right to one, I think a real communication involves exchange of information, ideas or between two parties. We, the current executive council, have tried our best and are still trying our best on our part to serve the community given our limited resources and we are bound to fall behind on certain things, but like Ashutosh dai said we can't learn if we do not make mistakes in the process of trying out new things. I would also like to add that it would make a helluva difference if the members of our community also took responsibility and put some effort in filling the gap because like I said, a real communication involves exchange between two parties. Last but not the least, who do you think put posters/flyers information about the movie at "Little India" and "Bombay Market"?
In the last one year alone, I have noticed Sandeep Lama, the GBNC president, 1 carrying a full course-load as a student at Boston University,
2 engaging, like everyone other Nepali student in Boston, in part-time employment
AND
3 managing/leading the 700+ members ko Greater Boston Nepali Community in whatwver way he could
Given this context, most reasonable people reading this will know that doing any ONE of those activities well is an achievement in itself. That is why asking one person -- that too a VOLUNTEER working on his own little free time-- to do ALL of that well is to set up hard-to-meet expectations.
And when those expectations do not match reality, we are bound to be disappointed. That is why, let us not go walk down the bato of disappointment, and be harsh, even humorously, on Sandeep and the Gang.
Perhaps a different school of thought is neceassry to look at the issue, and please feel free to disagree with this.
The point is: Regardless of the number of activities done or not done, if working on GBNC provides our young student or non-student members opportunities
a to try new ideas, b to learn to make/take decisions, c to work on teams, and, most importantly, to d make mistakes that all can learn from
THEN
the higher mission of GBNC is accomplished.
That higher mission being and I have relentlessly fought with some in the past about this : NOT the number of activities per se, but the slow, uncertain and ultimately rewarding process of creating leaders for the future of our various Nepali communities out of our young members. In other words, investing on the young by giving them opportunities both to succeed and to fail -- while fully supporting on BOTH counts.
Viewed this way, Sandeep's presidency appears fine, though it could -- as he himself would perhaps admit -- like everything else, use some improvment here and there.
And continuous improvements in everything are what we are all about.
whassssssssup !!! Is it true that Rajesh Hamal and other Nepali Actors are visiting Boston starting August 1st for a nepali movie show. It is really sad to find out this type of information from " Little India" or " Bombay Market " eventhough GBNC is organizing the show. I think, since the election of Sandeep Lama no offense bro.. as GBNC's president, a huge communication Gap has increased between GBNC and Boston's Nepali community which I believe the forthcoming President will improve.By the way, Good job San Brother and what about " SAN BROTHER FOR NEXT GBNC PRESIDENT ". You should seriously consider this. Trust me, you my VOTE.
I am wondering how GBNC officials will know about new graduates? I think it will be quite useful to define "new graduates" more elaborately to minimize confrontations since you guys are offering free entry. Do the graduates need to bring their graduation gowns or diplomas as a proof of graduation for free entry?
This is in response to the comment submitted on June 24. I find your comment extremely uncalled for. I do not see any absurdity in our community's effort to honor the new graduates for their hard work and GBNC has been doing this for the past several years. Why is this bothering you now??? And what do you mean by connection game?
This is absurd. How many graduates are you honoring? Do you even know all of the millenium graduates. Or is this just a connection game! Think about it.
I don't really have any comments, I just wanted to question GBNC about our annual New Year's party! Isn't anyone curious about why we didn't have one this year and are we having any get togethers this year? Some people who are not Nepali wanted to attend our Nepali party. Anyways, nice website but I think that the font should be enlarged. I can hardly read anything.:
Mahendra Man Sakya also known as Honda is a former GBNC president who went back to Nepal for good in 1995.
Now a thriving entrepreneur who runs his own chain of momo-pasals Momo King in Kathmandu, he was recently elected president of his high school’s – St. Xavier’s STX -- alumni organization aka the GAA.
At the GAA this year, Honda plans to introduce new programs to bridge the gap between senior and junior members, make the GAA more relevant in graduates’ lives and use its vast resources/network/influence to help STX raise funds on the occasion of the school’s 50th Anniversary 1951-2000 . To these ends, Honda is actively seeking advice, suggestions, comments and criticisms from STX grads and well-wishers from all over the planet.
Though much junior to Honda, I, in my own dealings with him, have, on balance, found him not only to be an informed debater who can argue a point of view very persuasively, but also one of those rare Nepalis who openly and even fearlessly welcomes and accommodates opposing viewpoints, learns from sharp dissent and listens to independent criticisms -- the lifeblood for the betterment of his organization.
Here’s a toast to wishing Honda, an active former Boston Nepali, all the best as he leads the alumni organization of one of Nepal’s most prestigious high schools into the new century.
